What is copyright?

Copyright is a law that provides ownership over the things people create. Being an owner of your own work gives you the rights to reproduce your own work, display and distribute it. Therefore since the rights belong to the creator, others must obtain permission before using the original work.  The most important thing to teach students about copyright is that it enforces the importance of original work for students and that you must be responsible for your own ideas or give credit to others for their work.
